Interesting sign from a mainland China hospital. I wouldn’t go here if I were a woman…

This is a post to see how fast I show up in search engines.
I renamed my blog from marcus weblog to marcus blog - it seemed the word weblog is not used as much as blog. Not surprising, but I’d never updated my site title because of this.
Let’s see if this site is now searchable by following terms:
blog hong kong
blog discovery bay
blog dutch hong kong
blog expat hong kong

Here’s just a review of all links in this site devoted to the renovation of our place in Discovery Bay. I noticed some people came back here and asked me questions about it, so I listed all previous posts on the topic in here.
You can click on the “Renovations” category in the Tag cloud on the left or click below:

We’re back from our holiday in Boracay and Cebu, and have now uploaded all the great pictures we made there.
Our holiday was great, Boracay was beautiful although quite different from the Boracay I visited 13 years ago.
Main differences: more pollution in the sea, more pumpboats anchored in the sea, and the hum of jetski’s in the distance…
But I’m not all negative - I still like the Boracay atmosphere and especially when staying in Friday’s Beach Resort you get a really relaxed beach atmosphere. We enjoyed the strolls over the beach to the small towncenter, and enjoyed the food in the restaurants - although we didn’t eat much local food though.
Below links will bring you to two slide shows, one of Matthijs first birthday party:

The other of our Boracay holiday:

We’re in Boracay with the three of us for some well deserved R&R.
We’re staying in Friday’s, which is supposedly Boracay’s best resort and it sure is great. The beach starts right outside our room, the rooms are good, the food is good, and the beach is great. We’re enjoying every single moment to the fullest.
Matthijs wakes up extremely early sometimes and this morning we were event taking a beach stroll at 4.30 am. But it doesn’t matter as it’s great to spend this time together the full 7X24 for a change. Very different from not having his nanny around!
Some pictures below - sent from my phone. I will update this later with better shots incl. some of Matthijs’ birthday party in Cebu,

Cool - tonight the new fiber optic lights built into the DB plaza pavement were switched on.
These little lights are almost invisible in daylight, and at nighttime they switch on and cycle through the whole spectrum of colours. So one moment the whole plaza looks blue, then it turns red etc. The pictures below don’t quite convey the true atmosphere but it’s really neat.
I remember I looked at this type of lighting for my house when we were renovating it - but it was insanely expensive. So this must have cost the Hong Kong Resort Company a good piece out of our management fees as well - problably best I don’t know how much exactly.

Today I decided to check how bad my stamina is with a hike up DB peak - one of the peaks closest to Discovery Bay, about 450 meters high.
Well, I made it in exactly one hour, and nearly died only three times on the way up… So depending on what shape you’re thinking of you could say i’m in good shape.
What I like about hiking up mountains is that you get this feeling a couple of times that “you’re never going to make it” while you’re gasping for air and your legs are about to give up. But every time it just takes like 10 minutes to get back your senses and your breath and continue.
