We’re in SHanghai for a nice weekend just together. It’s great to escape from it all for a weekend - especially for Nadine!
The hotel we’re in is fantastic and gives a great view of Pudong and the neon show happening there. We went to XinTianDi today and walked around the old French concession area.
Last time I was here is 3 years ago already - in just 3 years the city again has developed in terms of becoming even more cosmopolitan - and easy to get around in. Another thing is that we seem to find more people speaking English around town.
It’s right on its way to become that booming center town of Asia it’s been in the 20s and 30s - it’s going to be a trend setting town for China and the region.
Off to have some Shanghainese diner now in Jing’An.

I’m sure you’ve seen this on your last flight and your previous one.
It just occurred to me that the Airshow is exactly the same in many different airlines. This is a mindnote to myself to figure out which company’s behind it. Could be interesting to do live inflight satisfaction votes by passengers. And then coupling that with a live reporting tool…

It’s a dusty and smoggy day in Hong Kong - as you will see in the background of this picture. On the right you see the hills leading up to Sunset peak.
I’m waiting next to gate 47 for my flight to Singapore. I’ll be there a bit more often in the coming months - so I better get used to taking this flight.

I’m waiting for pushback from the gate at beijing airport. Just spent two days here for a training & a client meeting.
Since the last time I was here - probably 9 months ago - there are quite a few new colossal buildings lining the ‘3rd ring road’. Definitely things are moving faster here than in Hong Kong now.
Back to hkg now & then off to cebu tomorrow. Thank god for air travel.

Matthijs is doing the old Kai Tak airport approach in the simulator here.
We’re in Skyplaza and this is part of the aviation exhibits there.
By the way - Kung Hei Fat Choi - a prosperous Chinese New Year, we’re entering the year of the Rat.

I’m boarding CX888 to Vancouver - this will be a 11 and a half hour flight.
I can’t recall taking a bus to the aircraft instead of the airbridge so this picture below will be a rare one.
Vancouver is mighty cold and I don’t really have many warm clothes anymore - you simply don’t need sweaters and jumpers in Hong Kong. So this will have to be a matter of adding more layers of clothes.

If you observe the picture below closely you can see that I’m having champagne and reading a copy of the Telegraaf. All courtesy of the Cathay Pacific lounge.
A bit of consolation for taking a flight on Sunday midday - I’d rather stay home with the family!
Next few days I’m in Singapore.

I’m boarded & ready to go on CX830. This is the longest direct flight I ever took & problably one of the longest flights in the world.
Close to 15 and a half hours with an airbus 340-600, extend range.
It makes me wonder what is actually the longest scheduled flight globally?
